Doddsport Racing Team: A High-Speed Introduction

Welcome to the Doddsport Racing Team! We're excited to share the thrill of British motorsports with you. The team was started by Simon Dodd, a big fan of racing, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He discovered he wasn't the slowest person alive!  

This changed everything for him. During the period of lockdown he honed his skills on the virtual track concentrating on consistency, speed & constant improvement. He then had the thought that he should at least try this in the real world.

In July 2022, Simon got his racing licence. He passed the ARDS test at Silverstone on the Grand Prix Circuit, which was no easy feat. With his new skills, he bought a Formula 27 kit car from Facebook Marketplace. He was ready to race and make a name for himself in motorsports in the uk.

From Sim Racing to Real-Life Competition 

Dodd used his previously learnt skills to prepare the Formula 27 kit car for racing. The first step on this journey was to take it for a shakedown. Snetterton was chosen with a few like minded friends and their cars to see what he had let himself in for.

Needless to say things were quite different in the real world compared to the simulator! There is no reset when you hit the barriers so getting up to speed steadily is important to avoid any unwanted trips accross the grass or gravel! 

"The car is a good starting point but it definitely needs more power. The grip is incredible and the suspension is setup really well but along the straights it feels very sluggish." - Dodd, Founder of Doddsport Racing Team 

Dodd decided to delay the racing for a full season to do an engineswap on the car. The old 2.0L Ford pinto engine was removed and sold and a "brand new second hand" 2.0L Ford Duratec was purchased in its place.

This was no easy task. Everything in the enginebay had to be replaced, from the wiring to the pipewor and of course the engine needed a brain!     

Introduction to the Doddsport Car & Team 

Simon Dodd leads the Doddsport Racing Team. He loves motorsports and got better at sim racing during COVID-19. In July 2022, he got his racing licence at Silverstone on the Grand Prix Circuit. 

Dodd has prepared the car mainly on his own with the help of some skilled professionals for the important parts like the roll cage and engine tuning. 

The team's engineering skills are key. They make sure the car runs well and fast. They work on the engine and aerodynamics to win races.

The Doddsport Racing Team is all about motorsports and doing their best. With a great team and a ready car, they're ready to shine in racing.

The Doddsport Racing Team has made a big splash in real-life motorsport. Simon Dodd's dream of racing has come true. He went from sim racing to getting a racing licence and buying a race-ready car.
