2024 Season Review - 750 Motor Club - Sports Specials

Date: November, 2024

With the family in Paris

What can I say, for my first season racing in real life it has been quite the learning curve. From mistakes with gearbox oil, an underpowered car, the wrong final drive ratio and not checking the throttle cable nipple there were quite a few mistakes that cost me.

It's been a lot of fun though and I have to say the competitors in the Sports Specials championship in the 750 motor club have all been really friendly and helpful from day 1!

So with that said, I will definitely be back next season!

An added boost for me next season is that the club have decided to add an extra class into the mix. This class has a limit of 230bhp per tonne for "7 Style Cars" and 220bhp per tonne for all others. I am currently at 215bhp per tonne so either a few kios need to be lost from the car or I need to find 12bhp and I'll be right on the limit.

This is a much easier feat than trying to find over 40bhp to get to the front of the class I was in this season so hopefully next year I will come home with some silverware!

The highlight of this season has to be Silverstone. Not only because it was Silverstone but also because I had a great battle there so it felt like proper racing rather than just driving fast around a track.

The lowlight is definitely Donnington. First race of my career couldn't have gone much worse really. I forgot to mention I dorve to the circuit with my wifes car keys in the car as well so not only couldn't she make it to the race but she was also basically stuck at home all day. Add that to the gearbox failure and it was not the best day of my life for sure!

On the whole though, it's been a great first season, not quite the best rookie out there, I think that one goes to Jamie Bracher in his Sylvia Phoenix. He was a fair amount quicker than me but still not quite up at the front.

Chatting to him recently he is consideing adding some weight to his car to drop down to the new class with me so hopefully I'll have some good battles with him next year!

Upgrade Plans for Next Season

So what am I planing for next season?

First stop is new wheels. The current ones I have are a nightmare to get tyres on and off, to the point I had to use an angle grinder at the beginning of the year to cut the old tyres off the rims!

Not Fun!

So new wheels are needed as the first part, then I also need to remake my seat as although it is mostly comfortable it was the first time I had done a 'bag seat' and there are some refinements that are needed to be perfect.

Performance upgrades.

The only thing I am thinking of doing is replacing the exhaust manifold for a better flowing one. This should gain me a few more horespower to get me up towards the limit for my class along with another engine tune.

Then just some general maintenance, I seem to have a pretty persistant oil leak from the engine and gearbox which is frustrating so I am going to pull some things apart and replace some gaskets to try and stem the flow of dinosaur juice.

Other than that, a quick cleanup from general track dirt and some new stickers from sponsors for the next season and I'll be good to go!

I'll keep you updated with the progress of these as I get through them as well.

Speak soon!
