New Season, New Problems
Well here we are then, the 2025 season has started and already we have problems but thats motorsport. We were blessed with excellent weather in the south-east of England for the opening round of the season, bright sunshine, a bit of wind and not too hot. I'd call that perfect racing conditions!
First round of the year and our category was selected for scrutineering which is good to get it out of the ay early in the season although I'm sure we'll be selected again later in the year.
Nothing major to report from scrutineering though apart from needing to add a safety wire to make sure my GoPro stays with the cara should the mounting bracket fail.
So onto the fun stuff! Qualifying went well from my perspective until I looked at the results and found myself to be nearly 5 seconds slower than my competitors in my class!
Not a good start to the year!
I just thought they might have more power than me but looking over the car after the race I discovered my throttle stop was far too low and I was only getting 67% full throttle!
So onto the races for the weekend...
Race 1 went great right up until turn 3 of lap 2...
I exited Graham Hill bend and misfire...
Then it sprung back to life before the next left and misfire again!
Turns out I was getting fuel starvation round left hand corners. The primary fuel pump clearly wasn't beefy enough to keep the swirl pot filled up.
I tried topping off the fuel tank for race 2 but still had the same problem sadly. Back of the grid for both races but at least I finished all sessions and was just about competitive enough to get my signatures on my upgrade card!
I am now a fully qualified UK National Race license holder!
Just got a few things to sort before silverstone in a month!
New primary fuel pump and sort out the throttle opening fully.
Might as well buy a new exhaust manifold as well to get a few more horsepower out of the engine as well...
And so the wallet gets lighter every year!
