Race Report - 750 Motor Club - Mallory

Date: 7 October, 2024

With the family in Paris

After Silverstone there was time to take a quick trip to France with the family (wife and 2 dogs

A well earned break and the boys (the two dogs) loved walking around Paris as well as the other parts we visited, especially the beach!

Anyway, back to the racing.

Up next was Mallory on a slightly chilly October Sunday with the promise of rain later in the day.

The official team photographer Dan Bichener was there for this one as well which is where a lot of the photos on this website are from. He also designed the team logo which I personally think is great!

Onto the race report and this one gets interesting...

Qualifying was good, got my standard position of second from last but it seemed like not as many people overtook me as usual which was promising.

Turned out I was almost competetive here as the straights are shorter and the car is good in the corners!

There was a red flag during qualifying which interuppted the session a bit but we lined up in the pits and off we went after the track was cleared.

Although a couple of drivers carried on for an extra lap landing thmselves a bit of a fine from the stewards.

Race 1.

Quite a fun race to be honest, I had a bit of a battle and then started chasing people down until I saw a black and orange meatball flag. If you don't know, this means you have a mechanical problem that you may not be able to see and you have to come into the pits within 3 laps.

It is usually held out with a very clear driver number but I couldn't see any numbers.

I slowed down as I passed it the second time and also drove. alot slower worrying I had a major problem I couldn't see or feel.

Then the black flag came!

This time I saw the number, it was tiny and it also wasn't mine!

It turns out a lot of people though the flag was for them and came into the pits, this gave me some free places but I could have got a podium here if I hadn't slowed down looking for the race number!

I finished 4th in class though so I was super happy with that result even if it was because a lot of people came into the pits!

Race 2

Well this got interesting very quickly.

Haivng had dry running all morning the rain decided to make an appearance just after the historic cars went out dropping not an insignificant amount of oil onto the well rubbered in track.

What does this feel like?

Having driven on sheet ice in the alps before I can safely say this was worse. There was no grip and even though the rain wasn't heavy and seemed to stop the grip just got worse and worse.

I had a bit of a moment braking into turn 2 but managed to keep it together, then another moment coming out of turn 4, along with a lot of sideways action coming out of the hairpin!

This certainly keeps you awake! Add in the faster class coming thorugh as well it made it very tricky!

Fortuneately I kept it on the black stuff and off the grass and even managed a couple of genuine overtakes on some Exocets which was great fun!

Some people chose to go onto wet tyres, I was not one of them due to only having my Toyo R888R tyres with me but it was a lot of fun and I managed another 4th place in class so all in all a great way to end the season! Also another 2 signatures on my license with only one more needed to get rid of the rookie cross.

Time for some upgrades ready for next season though. Mrs Doddsport is going to have to deal with me tinkering in the garage over the close season to get me further up the grid I'm afraid!

Sadly the footage from this weekend was compromised... The GoPro ran out of batteries for race 2 and in race one the mounting bracket tilted over so I didn't upload the footage to save you getting a crick in your neck!
