Race Report - 750 Motor Club - 2025 Round 5 - Snetterton
Date: August, 2025
What a fantastic race weekend that was! Qualifying and 3 races in total meant for a lot of on track action.
This was also the first race Idecided to camp at for the whole weekend so it was good to hang out with my competitors in the evening and there was even a pizza oven provided by Neil Turner for everyone to use which made the evening most enjoyable.
For this weekend there were 2 others in my class so a maximum of 10 points available for the races. All I had to do was get enough points to secure the class championship win and there were enough points available to do this.
Qualifying went well but unfortunately I didn't time my runs right to get any sort of slipstream so got second place for all three races as Alan Bateman managed to get a tow for his laps so was 3 seconds quicker than me!
I wasn't aware of his tow so when I looked at the results I thought his car was going to be a lot faster than mine and I still had a lot of work to do! After speaking to him however I found out he had the tow and that was when I knew I might actually have a good battle for the rest of the weekend.
Onto race1
I got an average start and was with the rest of the pack with Alan just ahead of me but then I missed a downshift going into turn 1 and then had a bad exit out of turn 2 and he was a way in front of me with a tow from one of the slower Class B drivers. That was the end of that race really. I was then on my own for the rest of the race with no chance of catching up to anyone. However I didn't get lapped for the first time in my racing career!
That was the end of Day 1 and I felt the not being lapped part was massive! Obviously the work I have been doing on the car has made some significant improvements compared tot he rest of the field!
Race 2
I got an amazing start and overtook about 5 people before turn 1 to find myself on the tail end of the lead pack! I couldn't believe it. Unfortunately they were just too far ahead of me to give me any sort of tow and I slowly lost places until Alan got behind me.
Then followed the rest of the race just battling and swapping positions with Alan all race. He kept getting past me on the back straight due to the slipstream and I'd then retake the position on the start finish straight. It was then just a case of working out where I needed to be to be able to overtake him before the start/finish line on the final lap.
Final lap and I timed it perfectly to overtake him for the class win with about 5 metres to spare! I was over the moon with a great race and battle and the class win!
Then came Race 3...
We lined up on the grid and there were some spots of rain. This was going to be interesting!
End of lap 1 and it felt like the heavens fully opened up! I flipped on the rain light and got my head down to keep the car pointing in the right direction! Somehow managed to keep it on the black stuff while others were falling off the track all over the place!
Until the final lap, coming out of the second hairpin I put my foot down and bang! Smoke ot from under the bonnet and that was that. I pulled to the side of the track and opened up the bonnet. Big hole in the side of the engine block!
Not the way I wanted to end the season really but thats racing. New engine has been bought and the next update will give you progress on the engine rebuild!
